Replace Display Freezer – Ripponlea

Client requirements

This client had an existing  6-door display freezer which was constructed out of coolroom panel with glass door inserts . This  13 year old display had become tired and was also a large energy user. We were tasked with providing a solution that would provide more storage space, be aesthetically pleasing, be energy efficient, and most of all reliable.
The client’s other key requirements were:
  1. Timeframe- they could only close for 7 days and would need to be trading on the 8th day.
  2. Disruption to neighbours- the site is located on a very busy road and also has limited parking. There is also a large amount of residential premises near by so works must be carried out with minimal distribution to residents.
  3. Equipment noise- Equipment DB must be below a certain level as the designated motor location is in close proximity to residential living areas.

‌New TX valve and other components were installed and the system was operational. The system was monitored and fine tuning of parameters were carried out to optimise the performance of the system.

Solution

After conducting site visits to fully understand the scope of required works we were pleased to offer the Supply and Installation of two 4 door Hussmann P series glass door display freezers. We chose to pair the display freezers with a semi hermetic condensing unit complete with a variable speed drive.
This solution qualified for a substantial rebate for the client from the VEU under activity 32A(i) which is for installation of highly efficient refrigerated cabinets that are installed as per required guidelines.

Challenges

  • Site location- Located on a very busy road and with very tight access. We had to carry out a majority of the works outside of normal business hours.
  • Timeline- We had a very tight project delivery time. We worked closely with the client to create a schedule to ensure we could meet the delivery deadline. We had the new display freezers delivered to our workshop for works usually completed onsite. We also carried out non-intrusive site works whilst the business was still in operation.
  • Existing equipment/freezer- As the business is still trading we had to be very careful with decommissioning/demolition of the existing freezer. On day 1 of the closure the first task we carried out was to protect the flooring and surrounding equipment. Whilst this may be seen as a minor task, this is very important to ensure we didn’t damage any of the clients equipment onsite.
  • New freezers delivery- A big issue was getting the new freezers into the clients shop. We had to manufacture a steel sliding frame to slide the freezers through the door and also remove some of the shop front windows. The new freezers are very delicate and weigh over 800kgs each. We couldn’t have done this job without the use of our truck mounted crane and our all terrain forklift. These works were carried out during the night to avoid disruption to the neighbouring businesses.

Result

We successfully delivered this project on-time and on budget. The client has a highly efficient refrigeration system which not only looks amazing but is very reliable. Since this installation the new P series cases have been awarded ARBS 2024 Product Excellence. We also assisted with the VEU rebate application on behalf of the client. This rebate is a great assistance to Victorian businesses looking to upgrade/improve their existing refrigeration equipment.
Additional Work:
In addition to this work, we installed an imported blast freezer and also recently built an extension to his off site freezer room.
